We are proud to introduce you to Sonia Turley-Landers the owner of Southern Turtle. Sonia hails from the state of Alabama while her husband is a native of Panama City, FL. Sonia has fond memories of visiting her grandparents in Panama City when she was a young teen. It is when she first fell in "aw of the natural beauty of the Gulf Coast". So it just made sense when she and her husband decided to move to Panama City, FL permanently five years ago.
Sonia has a passion to create things for others. "I have always been a 'piddler' suing what was available to create clothing, bead-work; jewelry; leather-work; purses; moccasins and dolls all drawn from Native American and Southern roots." Sonia has been able to create quite a unique business combing her two passions which has also led to her being able to educate the public about Native American culture through her artistic abilities. "It seems the passion of creating something nothing is all in my work, whether it be a Statement piece of jewelry, taking a blank piece of paper and watching a child's face emerge from a pencil drawing to a Native American Dance Bag that shows in my interpretation of Woodland Florals". She also shows her love for the Gulf Coast through her use of sea shells in her work.
Sonia belongs to the Onondaga Nation/Turtle Clan, of the Haudenosaunnee or Iroquois Confederacy and is a member of the American Indian Arts & Craft Board of Directory. "it is my wist to not only inspire others to create but also to educate the public of Native Americans through art."
